Why ChatGPT is not BlockChain
We couldn't remember when BlockChain was first released, so we asked ChatGPT the answer — October 2008. Although BlockChain has achieved widespread use, the killer app is yet to materialise 15 years later.
In comparison, ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. AI stories flood news columns– from DeepFakes and Terminator doomsday predictions to revelations in cancer diagnoses, to helping people speak again.
So, why is this technology having this impact? Anyone can access it in their native language – no technical skills required It produces marvellous, complex results we haven't seen from machines before that both enthral and scare us It's already delivering widespread results today
If BlockChain didn't change insurance, what impact will generative AI have?
It's already impacting IT operations and software development and is rapidly moving into BPO operations. We'll soon see it powering bionic underwriting and proactive renewals.

Colville WoodChief Technology Officer at Cognizant Insurance UK&I, Cognizant - Presentation 2 and workshop - The importance of becoming a modern broker
-
The changing relationship between threat and opportunity is the lens through which all distributors, buyers and sellers need to judge the rapidly evolving digital landscape when considering their approach to market transformation. Owning the relationship with the customer, and becoming their trusted advisor, is the baseline for any broker, and helping their clients navigate the complexities of insurance, while matching the right capacity, has always been fundamental to the distribution chain. However, the insurance industry is changing. Customers want instant service and quicker interactions, as well as better advice and guidance from their brokers. It’s no longer enough to simply ‘gatekeep’ a revenue stream - carriers need a true partner who will provide real value
To meet the changing expectations, brokers need to modernise. The risk of disintermediation, and the pressure on commissions continues to rise as insurance consumers now have new ways to purchase new products/services

Augmenting the Underwriting Experience (a Gen AI production)
Take a small team of innovators, engineers, and insurance SMEs, and give them a deadline of 15 days to collaborate on imagining the next phase of underwriting workbenches…
In our session we will talk about our story of modern engineering, and what’s possible working to an immovable deadline to manipulate a new technology (Chat GPT) in one of the oldest industries in London. We will cover:
- What does a modern innovation cycle look like in reality for the insurance industry?
- How might this help evolve the Underwriting experience?
This is a presentation on the gritty reality of a fast-pace, fast-fail, live-demo experience, and the sense of humour required to smile through it.

Consultancies such as Capgemini believe that the Bimodal Insurance Enterprise is a proven archetype, but how does AI change this IT strategy in the insurance industry? A bimodal approach to IT is a concept that was popularized by Gartner, a leading technology research and advisory firm. It suggests IT strategy helps categorise applications based on their value to the business, thus determining the right resources (or mode) for development and fast-tracking strategic business innovation projects. Insurers and intermediaries that have adopted this strategy have been able to launch new insurance products, handle claims in a more friendly manner, and create better workbenches for underwriters. Much of this was enabled by low-code technology. In this new era of AI, where should it be used to create insurance software applications compared to other technologies.
Paul Fondie helps the Siemens-owned company Mendix with their strategy for its technology in the insurance industry and will present thinking that will feature in an upcoming whitepaper with Capgemini. It will be followed by roundtable discussion.
