Should the London Market underwriting community have some concerns?
The London Market has the highest concentration of underwriting talent anywhere on the globe. Over 300 years, this talent has been the foundation for success and international respect. However, in more recent years, some professionals and commentators in the community are starting to express concern that knowledge and skills aren't being passed on at the same speed or in the same way that they have been over the decades and centuries.
A regular theme of conversation at LMF community events
Why are people, including our young underwriting professionals and indeed some parts of the broking network raising this as a concern? Join us for the next LMF Underwriting Practice Group on 26th November in the Private Dining Room at the Apex Hotel in EC3 over a hot cooked breakfast, where, as a community, we'll openly explore whether there is a consensus of opinion on this matter and we'll also look at how some underwriting businesses might be trying to prepare for a "different" operating environment. We are very grateful to Market technology specialist, Insurity, for kindly supporting this community event.
We live in changing times and underwriting isn't immune from that
Within this topic, we'll seek to take into account changing environment factors, such as the impact of technology and automation, as well as, for many, the sudden and swift introduction of a hybrid working environment, where proximity to one's own colleagues and those with decades of experience is less prevalent.
What'll we'll try and address during the breakfast
- How can we ensure that we pass on the exceptional skills and knowledge of our experienced underwriting professionals, in view of the increased numbers of them retiring (over the decade), combined with the greater propensity for more remote working and therefore, perhaps, a reduced opportunity to learn from each other?
- Is this just a perception issue or a reality that we therefore need to find a way to tackle?
- How can we ensure that knowledge and skills are passed on in a modern word?
- How can technology play its part in supporting this changing operating environment?
Join us on 26th November from 8.30am - 10.30am for a fascinating discussion and have your say.
This event is only open to insurance professionals and preferably those leading teams in underwriting firms and Lloyd's. If this session assists your personal development, we can issue a CPD certificate, confirming your attendance.
