The Underwriter of the Future

LM Forums is delighted to invite members of the LMF Generative AI Working Group to its next session on Wednesday 12 March, hosted at Cognizant’s Innovation Centre at their Bishopsgate headquarters in London.

This exclusive session will explore how Generative AI is reshaping the future of underwriting and broking—not as a replacement for human expertise, but as a powerful augmentation tool that enhances judgement, efficiency and talent development across the market.

What to expect

Led by Colville Wood, CTO Insurance, UK & Ireland, and his colleagues at Cognizant, supported by Matt Jarman, the session will showcase some genuinely exciting and highly practical developments in Cognizant’s Generative AI work. At the heart of the demonstration is a real-time AI “Executive Assistant” designed to support underwriters and brokers during live, in-person negotiations and risk assessment.

The demonstration will show how AI can:

  • Listen to and interpret live underwriting conversations
  • Instantly surface relevant data and context
  • Provide decision-making guardrails and subtle nudges around pricing, terms and authority
  • Enhance negotiation quality without disrupting human interaction

As well as giving attendees a clear idea of the "art of the digital possible" the session will reinforce the belief that these new capabilities will support personal development and enable smarter underwriting and broking. Rather than deskilling, the technology on show illustrates how Generative AI can actively support learning—allowing junior underwriters to observe negotiation flow, understand reasoning in real time, and focus on judgement and soft skills rather than note-taking and administrative tasks.

The wider narrative also looks ahead to what organisations can do today, bridging the gap between the “end-state” vision of AI-enabled underwriting and a clear set of practical, adoptable capabilities already within reach.

Discussion-led and interactive

The event will be opened by Roger Oldham, Founder of LMF, and—true to the spirit of the Generative AI Working Group—there will be plenty of opportunity for open discussion, challenge and contribution from the room. This is very much a working session for peers who want to engage seriously with how AI can materially benefit underwriting and broking operations.

Places are strictly limited

Due to the immersive nature of the Innovation Lab, attendance is limited to just 18 places, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

This promises to be a standout session for anyone serious about the future of underwriting, the evolution of broking, and the role Generative AI will play in empowering both today’s leaders and tomorrow’s talent. Naturally, permanent members of the Gen Ai Working Group will be given priority.
